Radial dysplasia with juvenile coarctation of the aorta, tracheo-esophageal fistula and multiple hemivertebrae

Abstract
This paper reports a 48 hrs. of life, newborn male infant whom had the radial dysplasia with juvenile coarctation of the aorta, tracheo-esophageal fistula and multiple hemivertebrae.
This infant died of congestive failure on two days after birth. His right, forearm was flexed, abducted and shorter than the left, the thumb showed the characteristic feature of "finger like" deformity.
On X-ray films of spine and skeletal system, aplasia of the rt. radius and the occurence of multiple hemivertebrae. on thoracic and lumbar spines were proved. The cardiac shadow was globular and the pulmonary congestion was. seen on the chest film.
The autopsy findings showed -that the esophagus consisted of an upper segment which ended in a blind pouch above the level of the bifurcation of the trachea, the exact distant was 4 cm. from the gingiva, and a lower segment from the stomach which is connected to the bifurcation of the trachea by a short fistulous tract.
The aorta was coarctated at the off-spring of, the left clavicular artery, and the internal diameter was 0.6 cm. The diameter of pulmonary artery was 2.3cm. and the large ductus arteriosus (1.7cm. diameter) was entered to the below of coarctation from the near of right pulmonary artery bifurcation.
